All About Hair LossHair is an essential part of our body. Not only does it make us look good, it protect us as well. Each strand of hair has its own growth cycle. There are three main stages: the growth, the rest, and the fall. A cycle will normally last for one year, depending on the length of the hair and can continue to grow for as long as six years. Approximately 90% of our hair is in the growth stage, while the remaining 10% is in the resting stage. The resting stage takes about 3 months or less and is the period before a hair falls on its own. It is normal for a person to lose anywhere from 50 to 100 strands of hair every day. The lost hair is immediately replaced by new hair which will start growing from the hair follicle that is that tiny bulb-like bump at the end of a strand. This hair follicle is found right beneath the scalp or the surface of your skin. The normal growth rate of a strand of hair is about one half inch in a month. Hair loss happens to everyone but there are cases when the hair loss is abnormal. This does not include seniors who experience hair loss because of their age because that is normal. Abnormal hair loss has to do with premature balding - or while the person has not yet reached retirement age. Aside from medical treatment or drugs that can cause abnormal hair fall, it is possible for someone to lose a lot of hair because of pulling, too much styling and the use of harsh hair products, or the uncontrollable urge to pull hair. Since hair is made of protein, to keep hair from falling prematurely, one should have the right amount of protein in his daily diet. This could come in the form of fish, dairy products like cheese and eggs, chicken, nuts, dried beans, grains, meat, or tofu. It could also be taken as a supplement which is easy to find in health stores anywhere. Sometimes, too much brushing can also weaken the hair especially if you brush your hair when it is still wet. It has been said that wearing caps will cause you to lose your hair, but there is no scientific proof to back this up. With hair loss, the problem is not just a change in appearance, but for many people, especially men, a big blow to their masculinity. This is why there is new technology that allows a person to have hair replacement. In fact, this kind of surgery has become a full blown money-maker for many dermatologists and surgeons. If surgery is too much for you to take, you could opt for a non-surgical
technique like topical ointments that will try to stimulate hair growth,
or the use of a wig. There are many options for you to take but the most
obvious one is “go with the flow.” You might be surprised but if you are
a male, you might actually look better bald. There is a certain dignity
that can be seen in many bald men. It gives them stature plus many women
find them sexually attractive. |
